CAF Yvelines chooses FrontRange DeviceWall to improve security and the administration of its removable devices

April 6th 2009:  FrontRange Solutions, a leading provider of business software, today announced that the Caisse des Allocations Familiales des Yvelines in France has selected FrontRange DeviceWall to improve network security by managing the connection of removable media devices (USB sticks, iPods, portable hard drives etc.) to the corporate network.

Based in Saint Quentin en Yvelines, the Caisse des Allocations familiales des Yvelines provides social security services and is distributed across a dozen sites, employing nearly 700 people.  IT department manager, Eric Valera, is charged with maintaining network operations, including security.

Until now, the security policy related to access removable devices was provided by GPO (Group Policy Object), i.e. authorization policies proposed by default in Windows environment.

Valera said: "We noticed that the functionality provided by GPO was far from optimal, requiring a lot of manual administrative effort.  We spent a lot of time dealing with requests and blocked connections."

As such, the institution looked for a more intuitive and admin-friendly security solution which would afford it a high level of security against the potential risks posed by removable media devices, such as DVD players, floppy drives, USB sticks, PDAs etc.

Following an evaluation of several solutions, the manager of CAF Yvelines chose to deploy FrontRange DeviceWall across the corporate network.

FrontRange partner, Query Informatique, has been tasked with helping CAF Yvelines to implement the solution. "Our goal is to sell not only software but also provide a follow-up to deployment, a local service, as well as logistical and technical support to users of DeviceWall," said Manuel Costa, manager at Query Informatique.

DeviceWall offers single-screen administration of endpoint security policies, enabling authorized staff to create and manage policies for groups and individual users across the organization.  Administrators can create policies by either users or device type, and can access full usage logs to monitor blocked and permitted device connections.

Valera commented: "DeviceWall can manage device access across all 12 sites from our main headquarters.  The solution was easy to deploy and even allows us to manage the sometimes tricky task of allowing users temporary access to certain devices."

He concluded: "DeviceWall has simplified the administration of access to devices. Combined with better monitoring and reporting, this is adding real value to our organization."
