Centennial Discovery assists fastest-ever FAST Audit Certification

Discovery’s advanced recognition capabilities help NCH hit Gold from a standing start in just ten months

July 2004, UK:  Centennial Software, the network discovery and asset management company, today announced that its award-winning IT asset management tool, Centennial Discovery, has played a key role in the fastest-ever FAST Audit Certification, by multinational maintenance and repair products manufacturer, Group NCH International.

Using Centennial Discovery to find and audit all software across its UK network, together with expert audit guidance from Centennial Software partner, AMS,  NCH achieved FAST’s Gold standard for audit certification just ten month’s after initiating the project.

Faced with the task of auditing software across 24 European countries, NCH needed a scalable discovery solution which offered the highest levels of software recognition, combined with the lowest possible impact on network performance:  “In the end, the decision to go with Centennial Discovery was an easy one,” said Steve Wallis, Director of IT International, “It was the only solution that met our requirements for scalability, flexibility, functionality and price.”

On its first audit of NCH’s network, Centennial Discovery found over 9,000 different software executables in the UK alone: “I think it’s fair to say that we hadn’t expected anything like that!  But thankfully AMS had seen it all before and helped us use Centennial Discovery to prioritize the software that was most important to us,” said Wallis.

Although the primary driver of the project was good management practice, NCH were quick to realize the opportunity to reduce their software licensing costs with Centennial Discovery.   By identifying where users had particular applications installed, but had not used them in some time, Wallis and his team were able to re-distribute existing licenses to users who needed them more, rather than purchasing new additional licenses.

Reflecting on NCH’s record-breaking achievement, Wallis commented: “It’s an accolade that’s shared between the NCH staff, AMS and Centennial Discovery.  Without a solution like Centennial Discovery to automatically audit all our remote IT assets, there’s no way we could have completed the project so quickly.”
