SAM Essentials solution transcends traditional boundaries between tools and training to deliver real benefits in SAM
Leading SAM authorities applaud launch of SAM Academy
Jan 14, 2007: Centennial Software, the leading developer of IT asset discovery and software asset management (SAM) solutions, today launched Centennial SAM Essentials, an entirely new breed of self-help solution which combines market-leading process mapping capabilities with clearly-documented SAM best practices. This enables organizations to ensure a cost-effective and efficient SAM initiative. Centennial SAM Essentials will be complemented with the Centennial SAM Academy training initiative.
Centennial SAM Essentials provides comprehensive guidance through a SAM project, complete with documented SAM processes and policies integrated into an intuitive workflow. Critically, Centennial SAM Essentials users also get real-time access to SAM professionals offering training on SAM best practices as well as tailored advice for software management success in individual organizations.
Designed to enhance the benefits of Centennial Software’s flagship SAM.Suite solution for network auditing and managing license compliance, Centennial SAM Essentials is further evidence of Centennial Software’s commitment to equipping end-users and channel partners to realize significant process improvements, cost savings and risk reductions through their SAM programs.
Matt Fisher, Vice President Marketing at Centennial Software, explained: “Effective SAM needs a careful mix of people, processes and technology. While Centennial has a track record of delivering excellent technology, we recognize that tools alone won’t guarantee SAM success. With Centennial SAM Essentials, we’ve broken down the traditional barriers between technology and learning, creating a solution that provides both in order to help organizations ensure that their SAM efforts are effective and drive a significant return on investment.”
Centennial SAM Essentials features a complete process template for managing a SAM initiative, together with all the advice and documents needed to create a business case, determine and implement best practices, and track effectiveness. The new solution has been created with the help of ITIL experts, Itillion, and uses Mind Manager project management technology from Mindjet.
Amanda Abel, Director of Licensing from Microsoft, supported the introduction of Centennial SAM Essentials: “By enabling software and compliance managers to map SAM best practices to their own organizations, Centennial Software is filling a critical gap between awareness of SAM and the actual implementation of programs that could save firms millions.”
Alongside Centennial SAM Essentials, Centennial Software is also launching the SAM Academy, a new training initiative which has been established to help organizations understand and adopt best practices in software management. The Academy will offer a range of courses and tools, ranging from subjects such as how to take advantage of different vendors’ volume licensing schemes, through to full ISEB accreditation for SAM.
John Lovelock, Chief Executive of The Federation Against Software Theft added: “The SAM Academy complements what Centennial has already achieved in setting the benchmark for automated license management. The specialist training can make the difference between casual interest and actually making a commitment to save money and become legally compliant by better managing the firm’s software usage.”
Julie Strawson, chair of the Business Software Alliance Member Committee in the UK, supported the concept of the SAM Academy: “Centennial is putting significant effort behind educating organisations about how get the most from SAM. They are clearly one of the key driving forces in the UK behind the awareness and adoption of SAM practices and the Academy is a great step forward to help organisations reap the many benefits associated with the practice including the safe, legal control of software.”
