Centennial security tool awarded Government stamp of approval

- CSIA accreditation recognises growing gadget threat and highlights robust  qualities of DeviceWall -

August 14 2006 - DeviceWall, the endpoint security tool from Centennial Software, has been awarded the government-sponsored CCT Mark.

The accreditation is granted by the CSIA (Central Sponsor for Information Assurance), a department of the Cabinet Office responsible for running public sector projects. Products awarded the CCT (CSIA Claims Tested) Mark are put through extensive laboratory testing to guarantee that functionality matches performance claims. It means that public sector organisations can be confident in purchasing such products.

Centennial's DeviceWall software enables IT departments to monitor and manage the multitude of portable media devices, for example USB drives, iPods and digital cameras. DeviceWall can be used to automatically block any 'illegal' devices not permitted by the organization and also encrypts data stored on USB sticks to ensure information remains safe if the device is lost or stolen.

As one of only a small number products to pass the terms and conditions set by the Cabinet Office since the scheme started 18 months ago, the accreditation will raise DeviceWall's profile in the public sector. Centennial already works with public sector customers such as the New Charter Housing Trust Group and Wrekin Housing Trust through partners including Pillar Solutions and Network Utilities.

"Following a year of high-profile data theft stories, we've seen an increased demand for tools which address the threat of devices such as USB drives or iPods in the workplace, and it's fair to say that the public and finance sectors are the most advanced both in terms of requirement and adoption," said Andy Burton, CEO at Centennial. "These gadgets may seem innocent enough, but a 40gb iPod can hold one and a half million Word documents, that's equivalent to the personal details of every patient of a large city hospital."

"It's vital that the public sector addresses the threat of internal data leakage, and the CCT Mark for Centennial DeviceWall will reassure project managers and IT staff that the product they are about to buy lives up to its claims," Burton continued.

DeviceWall was recently voted "Best Security Software product of the year" by an independent panel of judges at the TechWorld Awards 2006.  A free 30-day trial of the software can be downloaded from www.devicewall.com.
