30 April 2007: FAST, the Norwegian-based leader in enterprise search solutions*, today announced that it has selected Centennial Discovery to help identify, audit and manage IT assets across 28 offices on six continents.
Hildebrandt Hølterhoff, system administrator at FAST, commented: “Today FAST is considered to be one of the world’s leading suppliers of search technologies and has grown from being a start-up to a global company. This also means an increased need for project and portfolio management. After a long selection process, we chose Centennial Software’s asset management solution Discovery to achieve full control over equipment, licenses, upgrades, configurations and costs.”
FAST will use Centennial Discovery to help inform IT managers about the state of the network and facilitate better decision-making across IT management. Whether the current project is Software Asset Management (SAM) or the roll-out of a new application, data from Centennial Discovery will help managers ensure that there are no hidden surprises on the network.
Jørn Enersen, Managing Director of OnSolution which is Gold-certified Centennial partner, explained one reason why full network discovery is critical to successful IT management: “A good rule of thumb is that organizations purchase too many licenses for 60 percent of their software and too few licenses for 30 percent of their software estate. The first is not economical, the second is illegal. With Centennial Discovery, FAST will have full visibility of exactly what software and hardware is on the network, avoiding both over-spending and unnecessary risk.”
Thanks to Centennial Discovery’s ability to audit both local and remote networks, FAST will only need to implement a single server in their Oslo headquarters to act as the central asset repository for all 28 offices.
“In the past, each computer had to be manually located to get an overview. Now we can remotely audit all hardware and software. Another very useful feature is that Centennial Discovery makes it easy to assess application patch levels and find security holes. This means we can dramatically reduce the fix time and allow IT staff to spend more time focusing on more business-critical tasks which again means costs savings. This is a win-win-win situation”, concluded Hølterhoff.
