DeviceWall 3.1 First to Deliver Portable Device Security Auditing and ''Anti-spoofing'' Capabilities

1st November 2005:  Centennial Software, the developer of endpoint security and IT asset discovery solutions today announced the launch of DeviceWall 3.1, the company's latest security software to help companies reduce the risks of identity theft, data loss and malware propagation behind the firewall.

In addition to its ability to prevent the connection of unwanted removable media devices (MP3 players, USB sticks, PDAs etc.) to the corporate network, DeviceWall 3.1 is the first endpoint security solution to also provide user-friendly graphical security audit reports.   Building on DeviceWall's reputation as the leading intuitive endpoint solution, these at-a-glance management summaries make it easy for administrators to track what types of devices are being used, where they are connected, who's using them and whether the connection was permitted or blocked.

Using this information, administrators can quickly identify the main risks on the network, adjust the organization's endpoint security accordingly and ensure that staff are automatically kept aware of the current policy in effect.

"To achieve its aim, any endpoint security solution needs to be able to first measure the risk, then effectively enforce a policy to combat the threat, and finally to prove that it is being successful in addressing the identified dangers," said Andy Burton, CEO of Centennial Software.

"If run initially in observation-only mode, DeviceWall 3.1 can help administrators quickly understand what devices are being used and by whom.  Then the organization can shape its security policy to meet its own unique requirements - and continue to prove the value of the solution by measuring the reduction in unwanted connections."

DeviceWall 3.1 is also the only solution of its type to effectively address the risk posed by a new breed of USB drives which present or 'disguise' themselves as CDs.  These devices can be used to bypass USB removable media lockdown measures.  However, in DeviceWall 3.1, Centennial Software has developed the technology to accurately identify these devices and ensure they cannot 'spoof' the security software.

Since its launch in April 2005, DeviceWall has been adopted by a growing number of companies concerned with the dangers posed by uncontrolled media devices on the network.   DeviceWall customer, Harman/Becker Automotive Systems, develops advanced in-car entertainment and navigation systems for manufacturers such as Aston Martin, Porsche and Ferrari.   IT manager, Chris Murray, is confident that DeviceWall has helped his team reduce the likelihood of data loss or intellectual property theft:  "DeviceWall has tightened our security with minimal effort to maximum effect."

DeviceWall 3.1 is available with immediate effect; a free 30-day trial version of the software can be downloaded from www.devicewall.com.
