The government's data loss record has been branded as "shockingly cavalier" by the Scottish National Party (SNP).
It estimates the government has lost in excess of 13 million records over the course of 2008, the equivalent to 25 every minute.
Commenting on the claims, Pete Wishart, the SNP home affairs spokesman at Westminster, says: "Despite promises of tightened security and high level reviews
there have been nine serious security breaches in 2008."
He adds that this is despite lessons having being learned in 2007 after the details of child benefit claimants were lost.
Mr Wishart believes these figures give reason not to implement compulsory identity cards throughout the UK.
Research for CPP carried out online by Tickbox.net/Opinion Matters found that 19 per cent of employees do not trust their company or current employers to protect their personal information.
It also discovered that 48 per cent of employees are concerned about the threat of ID theft due to personal info stored or published by their employer.
