Software piracy rates dropped in Ireland last year by two per cent, according to a new report.
The Business Software Alliance (BSA) global PC software piracy study found the rate had dropped to 34 per cent, which is below the European rate of 35 per cent, reports ElectricNews.net.
It is also a lot lower than the rate in 2003, which was 41 per cent.
Aileen Eglington, a spokesperson for the BSA Ireland committee, said: "We are making progress in Ireland in the battle against software piracy.
"Reducing piracy further would deliver significant benefits for local consumers, local software and services firms, small businesses, and the society at large."
The report had revealed that globally piracy rates dropped in 67 of the countries and only increased in eight.
A lower rate in the piracy figures in Ireland is good news for software users as it is one of the world's largest software exporters.
It was recently revealed that a reduction in software piracy rates in India could save the industry $3.1 billion (£1.5 billion).
