Auditing and compliance most difficult duties

IT managers are finding it difficult to manage IT auditing and compliance among their other duties, according to a new study.

The research, carried out by Shavlik Technologies, has found that the main issue for IT professionals was meeting compliance objectives, protecting data and tackling vulnerabilities, reports Redmond Channel Partner.

Mark Shavlik, founder and chief executive of Shavlik, told the website that organisations "struggle" to manage security and compliance needs, meaning they are open to action from an auditor.

"Despite efforts to apply various technologies, companies continue to struggle with efforts to manage and close vulnerability gaps, while concerns over regulatory compliance are driving them to look for more ways to simplify through automation," he added.

After surveying 491 IT pros at the Infosecurity and RSA conferences, the research found that over 43 per cent of people said regulatory concerns and internal IT policies were in their top three main concerns.

Over half of people reported that data protection and information leakage came top.

The WWPI.com website has recently warned that IT departments are stretched too thin to ensure software compliance does not fall off the radar.
