Microsoft steps up campaign against illegal Vista

Microsoft has increased its anti-piracy efforts lately, now cracking down on illegal copies of Vista.

Businesses and consumers may now find themselves in a situation where the screen goes blank and the system closes down, as Microsoft activates a campaign against the illegal products, reports PraguePost.com

The software giant has activated the "reduced functionality mode" which will take effect on any systems which have not been activated by entering the license key, after a 30-day grace period.

Tomas Koska, the head of the Windows client section at Microsoft, told the website: "Vista includes a sophisticated tool to detect illegal copies. The check is carried out in the background and would go unnoticed by registered users."

It is thought the new crack-down will lead businesses and home users to buy legitimate copies of the system.

A new addition to the system was added in Vista's service pack one, whereby hacks which try to circumvent the authorisation process are detected.

Microsoft has also recently announced that it is to take illegal action against eight software dealers around the world, for supplying illegal copies of unlicensed products.
