Data protection is becoming more important

Protecting data is becoming more important to people, according to the results of a new survey.

New IDC research has found that 81 per cent of people view information protection and control (IPC) solutions as an important part of their data protection strategy.

IPC includes solutions that monitor, encrypt, filter and block sensitive information in data.

The market intelligence firm, IDC, said the findings of the study showed that encryption and data loss prevention is becoming more prevalent.

Brian Birke, program director for IDC's Security Products and Services group, said: "A number of high-profile incidents have raised awareness of the growing data-leakage problem.

"The leaking of customer records, confidential information, and intellectual property has caused explosive demand for solutions that protect against the deliberate or inadvertent release of sensitive information."

The results also showed that 64 per cent of companies are planning on adopting new IPC solutions, with the main priority being to stop data leakage prevention.

A recent report by Search Security questioned whether data protection insurance should be on a response plan for data loss.
