Statistics show that 80 per cent of small businesses that suffer a fire or flood on their premises go bankrupt within a year, and one of the main reasons is the catastrophic loss of data such an incident can bring about.
Disaster recovery is often thought of as something only of concern to big corporations, but small firms are just as much at risk if not more so from the damage a loss of important sales, personnel and accounts data can inflict.
Moreover, many small firms are unaware of the affordability of dedicated off-site business servers, which can ensure the backing-up of sensitive data.
"Many businesses put off investing in a server until it's too late. They are wary of the initial cost and what they perceive as being hefty maintenance charges," said Andy Coughlan, managing director of Trojan Solutions.
While servers themselves can cost thousands of pounds, some companies offer full service rental arrangements for as little as £250 per month, Materials Handling World reports.
