The French government has unveiled a plan to punish individuals who neglect software compliance issues, it has been reported.
A 'three strikes' plan, which will disconnect persistent software pirates from their broadband access, has been given the go-ahead in the country, according to techspot.com.
Saying "there is no reason that the internet should be a lawless zone", French president Nicolas Sarkozy endorsed the proposal, which will result in disconnection for those caught illegally downloading software three times.
Under the new system, which begins at the start of 2009, people will receive an online warning for their first instance of software piracy, a letter for their second and will have the year internet access blocked for up to one year if caught again.
In tandem, the publication claims the entertainment industry will remove copyright protection on French material to allow legally held material to be used on any of the user's devices.
Last week, it was reported by Al Bawaba that the Kuwait Ministry of Commerce and Industry has agreed with the Business Software Alliance to step the fight against software piracy in the country.
