Around $350 million (£175 million) could be added to the Kuwaiti economy as the country prepares to tackle software piracy, it has been reported.
The Kuwait Ministry of Commerce and Industry has signed a memorandum of understanding with anti-piracy organisation the Business Software Alliance (BSA) to fight illegal software acquisition, according to Al Bawaba.
A recent IDC study suggested the Middle Eastern economy could benefit from increased sales and tax revenues if its software piracy activities were cut by ten per cent.
In related news, BSA and IDC research has shown the United Arab Emirates is experiencing increasing levels of software piracy, reports Afterdawn.com.
The study suggested sales of pirated applications have risen by 52 per cent over the past year, which could mean up to 38 per cent of all software sold in the country is illegal.
It also pointed out the lost revenues for these sales could amount to $94 million.
