Microsoft launching Brunei software piracy campaign

A Microsoft distributor is launching a briefing on software licensing to educate people in other countries about paying for products.

The firm, TechDistribution Sdn Bhd, said people in Brunei are not familiar in the process of paying for licensed copies of software and many use pirated products, reports Brunei-Online.com.

A talk on Microsoft licensing and certification has been given in the country for the ministry of development.

Microsoft has recently announced its determination to reduce the levels of piracy in the country, with the main problem being that many residents are not familiar with paying for their software licence, with some not even asking for one when making a purchase.

The conference raised the issue of the confusing nature of the original equipment manufacturer licence, which the website describes as "the cheapest kind of licence" as it comes with a new computer purchase.

Microsoft recently launched a software piracy campaign in India, with the thehindubusinessline.com reporting misuse of software is estimated to have cost the company $48 billion (£24 billion).
