Centennial Article: Software purchases made more complicated by licenses

Software purchases made more complicated by licenses

The software procurement process is complicated, with flexible software licences making it more confusing.

A new study by Microsoft has found that 63 per cent of IT executives questioned think the procurement process was complicated and time consuming.

Dervish Tayyip, head of the legal team for Microsoft in the UK, told Outlaw.com: "Our customers have welcomed some of the added flexibility in licensing in recent years, but this has come at the expense of greater complexity.

"There's clearly a need for industry-wide change and we believe this can result in a far better experience for customers."

He added that as the industry has matured the processes have become more complicated, which in part he said is not unexpected as it is a much more difficult process than being raw materials.
In related news, it was reported by ComputerWorld that companies need to put procedures in places to protect software licenses and information, such as software asset management systems.
