IBM has reported that more firms are looking to comply with IT-related regulations to avoid penalties.
The firm said more companies are opting to keep to regulations when introducing new services or software, reports Inquirer.net.
Peter Rajnal, software solutions manager for IBM's software group in Southeast Asia, told the website: "Three or four years ago, regulation was something local companies may just have heard of. We are having much different talks with companies here now."
He added that firms now know what their critical needs are and what they need to comply with.
Mr Rajnal said new business models were also driving compliance within companies and that some firms may lose privileges if they do not adhere to them.
According to Securecomputing.net.au, IT managers can cut the cost of the IT spending by employing compliance programmes.
Software application management tools can monitor which applications have been installed and monitor the usage of them.
