Microsoft has launched a new campaign to combat software piracy of its products, according to a source.
The company has revealed a three-pronged approach to the illegal use of software, which is estimated to have cost them $48 billion (£24 billion) in 2007, reports thehindubusinessline.com.
According to the firm, a ten per cent decrease in piracy rates would create 44,000 jobs, $200 million in tax revenues and $3.1 billion in growth.
Mr Vipul Sant, director of Microsoft India, said: "Our endeavour is to work with customers, businesses and partners to drive awareness of piracy as an issue, and to educate them on how they can work on minimising this menace."
He added that the firm had increased access to software, both online and telephonically, in a bid to reduce piracy rates.
A new campaign has been launched in Manchester recently, to raise awareness of pirate software use in the city's businesses.
