'Managing virtualisation' is difficult for IT managers

Companies are reporting that managing virtualisation is proving difficult for them, according to a new poll.

According to NetQoS and Network Instruments, 40 per cent of IT managers at the recent Interop conference cited virtualisation as one of the "greatest monitoring challenges" in their company.

It seems this problem may be set to grow as more people say they will be adopting the technology over time.

A poll at the conference showed that over 50 per cent of attendees have already deployed some of the technologies, with 80 per cent saying they plan to adopt more in the coming years.

In addition, unified communications and MPLS were cited as areas which were also hard to monitor and ensure compliance.

Charles Thompson, manager of systems engineering for Network Instruments, said: "Many of the people we're speaking with today are talking about network-wide rollouts of new applications like VoIP and unified communications.

"Many IT staffs find it challenging to assess how these applications will impact the performance of other business-critical applications."

ITBusinessNet recently reported that companies creating a virtual environment should ensure software agreements are properly tracked and managed.
