A university in American is warning current and former students that their social security numbers may have been breached, after a hack on the institution's website.
Southern Connecticut State University discovered its website had been used to sell wedding rings, following hackers entering the system, reports ComputerWorld.
A personal file, storing the information of past and present students, was accessed by the criminals when they attacked the website.
Patrick Dilger, the university's director of public affairs, said they believe the attackers came from outside the US and are working to find them.
"The hackers were using our Web server as a host for their own website," he told the website.
Following the discovery of the pages selling diamond rings and Viagra, a security review was conducted, which found that the personal file "wasn't properly secured".
Another education institution in the US, the University of Miami, recently revealed that it had lost the medical records of two million people.
