Security experts growing and protecting reputation

Security experts are most concerned about protecting their company's reputation, with the industry set to rise dramatically in the next four years.

Research from Frost & Sullivan found that the number of information security experts is set to increase by 1.04 million before 2012, reaching 2.7 million.

Most of this growth will be seen in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, with the Americas also seeing a growth rate of ten per cent.

The research also found that the professionals' main fear of threat was from employees, with half of respondents identifying it as the main cause of concern.

In addition, the security experts were taking data breaches more seriously, with one-third saying they would report an incident directly to an executive.

Budgets for the sector were also reported to have increased, with 27 per cent saying a rise had been seen.

The Information Commissioner recently reported that companies and the government are not protecting their customers.
