BSA sues Saudi firm $1.3 million for software misuse

The Business Software Alliance (BSA) has announced what is believed to be its first legal action in the Middle East, by fining a firm in Saudi Arabia US $1.3 million (5 million Saudi Riyals). As well as fining the unnamed organization, the BSA is also calling for the firm’s commercial license to be withdrawn.

The BSA claims that up to 52% of all software in use in the Kingdom is illegal. This action is evidence that the BSA is ramping up anti-piracy activities around the world, beyond its traditional hunting grounds of Europe and North America.
