Microsoft and Fasthosts disagree on SaaS licensing

Microsoft is claiming that the latest offering of “Office streamed to your PC” by Fasthosts infringes the software giant’s licensing rules.

While Fasthosts claims that the service - which is similar to Software as a Service (SaaS) - was created in partnership with Microsoft.   However, it seems Microsoft does not agree.

The spat could leave potential customers unsure of their licensing position, especially those that are using the new model to upgrade from older versions of Office, such as 2003.

Our advice to potential users of Microsoft SaaS solutions is to check that the supplier is fully accredited by Microsoft and determine what licensing rights are associated with any software delivered remotely.
